  • States have the opportunity to submit additional rigorous programs of study to the Department for recognition
  • Submissions must be received by June 1, 2006 for programs to be identified for the 2006-07 school year
  • If a state does not submit an additional definition, it signifies its affirmation of the four options previously outlined
  • Regulations governing the first two years of this program will be released in the near future

Process for Future Years
  • Submissions for additional rigorous programs of study must be received by November 1, 2006 for programs to be identified for the 2007-08 school year
  • Regulations governing future years of this program will be done through negotiated rulemaking (per the Higher Education Act)
